LIGHTING DESIGNER

More than two decades ago, my journey into lighting design began modestly, with just a dozen lights and a simple two scene pre-set board. Yet, within that humble beginning, I discovered a profound fascination and connection with light. Despite transitioning into leadership and managerial roles over the years, my perspective has remained rooted in the interplay of light and composition.

Across a diverse spectrum of genres — from contemporary dance to musical theater, and unconventional found art spaces to immersive theatrical presentations — I’ve wielded light as my medium of expression. Throughout these explorations, I’ve embraced the challenge of integrating various technologies, from illuminating industrial spaces for operas to ingenuity of harnessing transformative power of cutting-edge LED and projection technologies.

Over the course of my career, I’ve lit over 75 productions, each one a testament to the fusion of artistry and innovation.

Select companies include: Citadel Theatre, Canadian Stage, Thousand Island Playhouse, Project Humanity, Kemi Contemporary Dance Projects, Factory Theatre,  The Sony Centre, The Royal Conservatory of Music, Harbourfront Centre,  ProArteDanza, The Grand Theatre London, Beal Musical Theatre & The Dietrich Group. Oz received a high-level apprenticeship with Louise Guinand from age 16 to 20; he has also worked with other designers in an assistant or associate design role, such as Kimberly Purtell, Michelle Ramsay and Renee Brode.

I have been nominated for a Dora Award for Chasing the Path and a Brickenden award, and have won two Dish Awards  for my designs of Into the Woods & Phantom of The Opera.
